Simple question: you can have any car under $70k USD/$91k CAD, but it can only be the base model. Want an M3? Shame, that’s a 3-series, you get a 320i. GT350? Nope, you get the V6 Fastback. No options either, just the bare bones model. So, what’s your choice?

Honda Fit. You get a ton of features like a backup camera already.

Not a bad choice. I dig the Fit. Rode in one a few times, didn’t seem like a terrible place to be.

Porsche Cayman or an Alfa 4C.

Now that I think about it, an F-Type wouldn’t be a bad pick either.

Tesla Model S 60. $65,000 after tax credit.

I just wish I could get the Subzero Weather Package, but nope. Could probably swap heated seats, the heated steering wheel, the washer fluid heaters, and the wiper blade defrosters in from a crashed car after the purchase (which, you can also enable a bunch of features after purchase, too).

F-type is a good answer, but I’ll offer this for a second option:

Audi A7, comes in at $68,800.

Even the base 3.0 should provide enough luxury and power to satisfy most. Plus it looks great even in base form(which may be this one, don’t know packages)

I was going to say “Cayman” but wow, you’re right. I’ll take the 340 HP base convertible in black. Damn, didn’t know I wanted this car that much; it’s perfect. If the generous guy who’s going to give me this car absolutely for free (that’s CB , right? you’re the best ) interprets the rules so that the base model must be the hardtop (which is, after all, $4000 cheaper) I will take it in white instead, and gratefully exclaim “thank you very much, CB! ”

Sedan: Hyundai Genesis Base. ~$85,000 CAD

Coupe: Inifniti Q60 2.0t - ~$54,000 CAD

Sport: Chevy Corvette 1LE- ~$68,000 CAD

SUV: Porsche Cayenne BASE OF THE BASE~$70,000 CAD.

I think those are all reasonable cars when spec’d out at their base end.

Kinja'd!!!1

The base S-class with no options doesn’t actually exist in the US/Canada. The $4500 “Premium Package” is actually standard on inventory and I don’t think you can even order a car without it. Real base price is actually $101,100. Merc is basically lying with that $96.6k figure.

Additionally the $2500 driver assistance pack add so many features that it should basically be standard. A S-Class without that is a extremely sad proposition too. Very rare to see a W222 without it anyway.

Also it looks pretty lame on those 18" wheels so you’ll want to budget $1500 for some 19s or $2k for some 20s.

The base leather also leaves a fair bit to be desired so you’ll need another $2300 for the nappa leather upgrade.

All in, the minimum acceptable S-Class is really more like $107,000 after delivery fee. That’s not even getting into features that are standard on other cars like HUD, heated steering wheel, etc. as well as then adding luxury features to the rear seats.
